ST. TROPEZ

A new project with new and old members
In 1978, Ciro Perrino starts the ST. TROPEZ project.
At first Ciro wants to form a solid rhythm section with bass guitar and drums. For this he is looking for Giorgio Battaglia and Francesco Bat Dimasi who have also played in the band CELESTE in the past. The other two members of SNC are also included in ST. TROPEZ. New members are the bassist Silvano Cecchini, an old friend of Ciro, and the young but very skilled drummer Mimmo De Leo.

Cecchini plays Fender bass guitar with a Fender Bassman 100 amplifier.

De Leo plays the Premier Outfit 303 med. 1969 drumkit with double toms, Zildjian Heavy ride & Medium Ride Cymbals and Hollywood Splash Zildjian 38 Medium hi-hats.

Ciro asks another very young drummer from Sanremo to work on the new repertoire in the recording studio. This is the 15-year-old Enzo Cioffi, the first to actually participate in the recordings for ST. TROPEZ, coupled with the electric guitarist Stefano Minutolo. The latter will later play on the Terra track of Ciro’s first solo album SOLARE with an improvised guitar solo at the end of the track. On that occasion Enzo and Stefano record the first real composition written by Ciro. Despite the fact that only a few years have passed, this music is far from the atmosphere and sounds typical of IL SISTEMA and CELESTE.

        Rehearsing and recording

The end 1977 and the following year are spent on rehearsing and recording. They have the feeling of getting closer to the final version of the compositions each time. When almost everything has been recorded, Ciro starts to contact a few record labels. He makes an appointment with Phonogram and Cramps of Gianni Sassi. There is some interest. This proves not to be enough for the release of an album. These contacts appear to be useful some time later. Ciro Meet Giorgio Pertici, the manager of Phonogram, who founded Ciao Records and offers him a contract for his first solo album.

        Moderate interest in ST. TROPEZ

The project of ST. TROPEZ ends because of a lack of interest to release an album.

A CD of selfmade recordings has been released later under the name of Icarus. It consists of 10 songs of which 4 with lyrics, namely Segnale Limpido, Il Laghetto del Cigno, Icarus and Re del Deserto.

This CD is part of CELESTE, The Complete Recordings. This has been an edition with music of IL SISTEMA, CELESTE and ST. TROPEZ.
